Prabowo Subianto, Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect, recently concluded a rapid visit to five Southeast Asian countries in just three days. During his visit, he met with national leaders to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss strategic issues.
The tour began in Brunei Darussalam, where Prabowo met with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah to discuss defense cooperation and education. He extended an invitation to Bruneian military officers to enroll in master’s programs at the Republic of Indonesia Defence University (RIDU).
Following his visit to Brunei, Prabowo traveled to Laos to meet with President Thongloun Sisoulith and Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone to discuss defense and regional stability within ASEAN.
Next, he flew to Cambodia to meet with Senate President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet to explore new collaboration opportunities in defense partnerships.
In Thailand, Prabowo attended a dinner hosted by former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his daughter, newly elected Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, expressing gratitude for their friendship.
The final leg of his tour took him to Malaysia, where he met with Sultan Ibrahim to discuss defense cooperation and strengthen the relationship between the two countries. He also met with Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss bilateral defense cooperation.
Prabowo expressed his commitment to enhancing cooperation between Indonesia and the Southeast Asian countries he visited. After completing his visits, he returned to Indonesia, reaffirming the Ministry of Defense’s dedication to creating a harmonious bilateral defense relationship.
