Jakarta — The Chairman of the Majelis Syuro of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), Salim Segaf Aljufri, expressed his belief that President-elect Prabowo Subianto has the ability to lead Indonesia to become a regional leader in ASEAN. This statement was made during Salim’s visit to Prabowo’s residence at Jalan Kertanegara No. 4, South Jakarta, on October 11.
Salim stressed the importance of unity among all national components, especially in dealing with global conflicts that could affect Indonesia.
“Considering the current global situation with uncertainties and conflicts such as those in Russia and Ukraine, as well as the Zionist aggression against the Palestinian people, we need to unite and strategize on how our nation can face these challenges, as the repercussions will impact us,” Salim stated.
He pointed out Indonesia’s potential as a major nation with abundant natural resources and a large population, advocating for Indonesia to take the lead in the ASEAN region.
“With our vast territory, population, and natural resources, we should aim to lead this region. I have faith that Prabowo Subianto is capable of taking on this leadership role,” Salim added.
Salim also tied Indonesia’s leadership position to supporting Palestine’s right to independence, citing the strong historical ties between the two nations.
“If this leadership is realized, I am confident that Palestine will not forget our nation. They deserve their independence, just as they were the first to acknowledge and support Indonesia’s independence,” Salim said.
To showcase the strong bond between Prabowo and PKS, Salim shared a special traditional Indonesian poem, known as a pantun.
“PKS’s connection with Mr. Prabowo Subianto is deep-rooted and meaningful—a heartfelt bond that remains strong in our hearts,” Salim expressed before reciting the pantun:
“Know that we threw it in Pantai Belawan,
Pigeons flew in flocks,
We have come a long way
But that beautiful relationship remains in our hearts.”
He then concluded with:
“If there were no pinisi boats,
How could we conquer the world,
If we did not form a coalition,
How could we advance our nation.”
Salim’s poetic words symbolize the enduring partnership between PKS and Prabowo as they work towards a stronger Indonesia. (RR)
