French President Emmanuel Macron recently paid a visit to Indonesia, underscoring the deep and meaningful partnership between the two countries. Macron emphasized that the bond between Indonesia and France goes beyond symbolism, representing a genuine and robust collaboration. The visit saw Macron warmly welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, where discussions revolved around enhancing the strategic partnership between both nations in areas such as economy, technology, security, and culture.

Having maintained diplomatic ties for 75 years, Indonesia and France have witnessed significant advancements over the past decade. Macron acknowledged Indonesia’s pivotal role in upholding regional stability in the Indo-Pacific region and applauded the progress in bilateral defense cooperation, renewable energy, transportation, and the energy transition agenda. Cultural cooperation was also a focal point during Macron’s visit, with a cultural agreement set to be signed at the Borobudur Temple complex symbolizing the growing friendship between the two nations. Macron expressed his gratitude to President Prabowo for the warm reception and conveyed optimism for sustained collaborative efforts during his two-day official trip to Indonesia.
