Indonesia and France have enjoyed diplomatic relations for over seventy years since 1947. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron was warmly welcomed in Jakarta as a symbol of friendship and mutual respect between the two countries. The grand state welcome took place at the Merdeka Palace, where around 3,000 students, from elementary to high school levels, dressed smartly and proudly waved the flags of Indonesia and France. The motorcade carrying President Macron, accompanied by First Lady Brigitte Macron, made its way from Monas to the palace, amidst tight security measures, adding to the ceremonial ambiance.
Upon his arrival at Merdeka Palace, President Macron greeted the enthusiastic students, receiving an official welcome by President Prabowo Subianto. The two leaders then walked together to the ceremonial grounds, accompanied by the national anthems of both countries and a 21-gun salute as a mark of respect. Prabowo and Macron inspected the honor guard under the clear blue sky of Jakarta, with Macron acknowledging the students waving miniature flags in the palace courtyard.
The ceremony was attended by ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, as well as Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. Macron’s visit to Indonesia included stops at the Military Academy in Magelang and a visit to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, highlighting the shared cultural and educational values of both nations. Following the welcome ceremony, the two heads of state engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss various strategic partnerships, solidifying the deepening ties between Indonesia and France.
