European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently announced a new visa policy that will simplify the entry process for Indonesian citizens traveling to the European Union. Under this new policy, Indonesian citizens making their second visit to the EU will now be eligible for a multi-entry Schengen visa. This announcement was made during a joint press conference with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Berlaymont Building in Brussels. Von der Leyen emphasized that the visa policy is not just about facilitating travel but also about strengthening long-term connections between the people of Indonesia and the EU, particularly in fields such as education, investment, and social exchange. This initiative is part of the people-to-people connections pillar of the EU-Indonesia strategic partnership, aimed at building bridges between the two nations. President Prabowo welcomed the deepening of ties between the EU and Indonesia, highlighting the importance of trust and shared values in fostering strong relationships. He expressed optimism about the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two parties and humorously mentioned his desire to return to Brussels for the signing ceremony. This new visa policy and the evolving economic partnership signal a new era in the bilateral relations between Indonesia and the European Union, promising increased openness, strategic collaboration, and mutual benefits for citizens on both sides.
