National Children’s Day in Indonesia is not just a yearly festivity, but a crucial opportunity to make tangible strides towards securing the future of the nation’s youth. President Prabowo Subianto emphasizes the importance of this occasion by launching three key programs aimed at prioritizing children’s welfare: Nutritious Free Meals (MBG), Free Health Checkups (CKG), and School Revitalization. These initiatives, as described by Dedek Prayudi of the Presidential Communications Office, are designed to address critical issues affecting children in Indonesia.
MBG goes beyond simply providing meals to children; it focuses on ensuring they receive adequate nutrition daily. Shockingly, data from the Ministry of Health reveals that 60% of school-aged children attend school on an empty stomach. This lack of nutrition can lead to various health issues and hinder their ability to concentrate in class. To combat this, the government is not only providing free nutritious meals but also conducting comprehensive health checkups for students, which includes screenings for various health indicators.
Furthermore, the government’s commitment to children’s well-being extends to the School Revitalization Program, aimed at renovating over 11,000 schools nationwide. Many schools are in dire need of repair, with nearly 120,000 identified as having structural damage. This initiative, supported by a significant budget allocation from President Prabowo, seeks to provide safe and dignified learning environments for all students across the country.
These programs underscore the government’s dedication to fulfilling children’s rights to health, education, and development. By addressing issues related to nutrition, health, and infrastructure in schools, Indonesia is taking proactive steps to safeguard the well-being and future of its young population. The emphasis on protecting and nurturing children reflects a broader commitment to building a healthier, more prosperous society for all Indonesians.
