Toyota officially announced the end of Supra production in March next year, with the 2026 model year as the final year for this car. The automaker introduced the Final Edition, indicating that the day is near. The company released a brief press release to make the announcement. Toyota unveiled the fifth generation Supra at the Detroit Auto Show 2019, with sales starting in the United States before the end of the year after a 21-year absence. This sports car debuted as a collaboration with BMW, sharing a platform and powertrain with the Z4. The Supra 2020 was initially launched in the United States with a 3.0-liter inline-six turbocharged B58 engine, and received a 2.0-liter inline-four turbocharged B48 engine for the 2021 model year. The car was launched with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission, but Toyota eventually offered a six-speed manual transmission-only for the inline-six engine. The 2026 Toyota Supra MkV Final Edition sold in the US produces 382 horsepower and 386 pound-feet of torque from the B58 engine, allowing the car to accelerate to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds, priced at $69,745. The Final Edition available in Japan and Europe, with only 300 units produced for both markets, generates 429 hp and 420 lb-ft from the upgraded B58 engine. Despite the sadness of seeing production end for such a great car, the Supra will not be gone for long. The automaker has hinted at a successor, but there may be a gap between generations. While it may not take as long as we waited for the fifth generation, only time will tell. Or maybe not.
