Jakarta – During the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue 2024 in Singapore, Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto had a friendly encounter with Timor Leste President Jose Manuel Ramos Horta.
Prabowo and Horta shared a warm embrace and conversation as they made their way to the dinner table on Friday (31/5). Prabowo, dressed in a black suit, was seen laughing, hugging, and patting Horta on the shoulder, creating a cordial atmosphere during their discussion.
During a Q&A session, Prabowo mentioned how Indonesia, which had previously experienced conflicts with Timor Leste, has now established a friendly relationship with the country.
“Just imagine, here I am sitting with Ramos Horta. He even invited me to visit Timor Leste, and I am considering accepting the invitation,” Prabowo shared.
Prabowo highlighted Indonesia’s history with neighboring countries like Timor Leste, Malaysia, and Singapore, noting that despite past conflicts, efforts have been made to ease tensions.
“We managed to resolve our differences without external intervention. We have settled disputes with Malaysia and Singapore,” Prabowo stated.
“Now we are like brothers, discussing potential projects like a bridge connecting Singapore and Batam, as well as a bridge linking Malaysia and Indonesia,” he added.
