Moscow – Indonesian Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto called Russia a ‘good friend’ and expressed his desire to continue strengthening the relationship.
“It should be remembered that Russia has helped us (Indonesia) in various ways when we were facing difficulties. Russia provided assistance to us during those challenging times,” Prabowo said during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Russia, on Wednesday (31/7).
He also noted that Russia has supported Indonesia in developing its defense and military capabilities. As the defense minister, Prabowo highlighted the strong cooperation between Indonesia and Russia.
“I am here to emphasize that this partnership will continue when I officially assume the presidency of Indonesia on October 20,” he added.
Additionally, Prabowo mentioned that he has been actively communicating and discussing with Putin’s team, especially regarding the defense industry.
“I have also met with key officials in your industry, particularly in the defense sector, and have been having in-depth discussions over the past few months about a roadmap to enhance cooperation between Indonesia and Russia,” Prabowo concluded.
