Prabowo Subianto’s Journey from France to Russia: Meeting World Leaders

Jakarta – Indonesia’s Minister of Defense and President-elect for the 2024-2029 term, Prabowo Subianto, conducted an official tour of Europe from July 24 to 31, 2024.

During his trip, Prabowo met with leaders from four countries: French President Emmanuel Macron, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Prabowo was warmly welcomed by the respective leaders upon his arrival in each friendly nation.

During his visit to France, Prabowo met with Macron at the Elysee Palace on Wednesday, July 24. They discussed global security issues and plans to enhance defense cooperation, as well as attended the opening of the Paris 2024 Olympics. Prabowo also had discussions with FIFA President Gianni Infantino and International Olympics Committee President Thomas Bach about Indonesia’s sports initiatives.

After France, Prabowo traveled to Serbia on Monday, July 29, to meet with President Vucic. The meeting aimed to strengthen political dialogue and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Following Serbia, Prabowo visited Turkey and met with President Erdoğan to discuss bilateral relations in defense and other areas. He also visited the Ozdemir Bayraktar National Technology Center in Istanbul to learn about defense technology development.

The final stop of Prabowo’s European tour was in Russia, where he met with President Putin at the Kremlin in Moscow on July 31. They discussed cooperation in various fields such as education, tourism, food security, and defense. Prabowo also expressed interest in potential collaboration in nuclear energy and invited Russia to participate in a defense exhibition in Indonesia in November 2024.
