Aside from gaining knowledge from my superiors, I also learn a lot from my comrades in the military. In this book, I am sharing the stories of some of them. Certainly, there are many more outstanding juniors, but I am unable to include everything in this book for the sake of completion.
MAJOR GENERAL TNI (RET.) GLENNY KAIRUPAN
My friendship with Major General Glenny dates back to our cadet days in 1970. We belonged to the same company under the leadership of First Lieutenant Azwar Syam. Throughout our journey as cadets, young officers, and beyond, we have faced challenges and celebrated triumphs together.
While I served in the Special Forces (KOPASSUS), he pursued a career in the Army Aviation (PENERBAD) division. Our paths often crossed in East Timor, especially following encounters where casualties or injuries occurred. Glenny would swiftly arrive by helicopter to evacuate the wounded, displaying his unwavering commitment.
Despite the risks of landing in treacherous terrains, Glenny never hesitated to provide support, understanding the importance of swift medical assistance for our team members.
Glenny Kairupan not only possesses a robust physique but also exudes a friendly and courageous demeanor. His presence is marked by humor and warmth, making him a beloved figure among his peers.
During our time in different units, from KOPASSUS to PENERBAD, our collaboration extended to challenging missions in East Timor, Papua, and border areas. Even after his promotion to Deputy Commander of the Military Resort Command in East Timor and eventual retirement as a Major General, Glenny continues to offer his expertise in the Ministry of Defence.
His athletic prowess and leadership qualities shine through his achievements as a sharpshooter, obstacle course athlete, and tennis player during his cadet days. Glenny embodies the essence of a dynamic and joyful military leader, always eager to expand his knowledge and closely associated with Pak Wismoyo Arismunandar.
