Jakarta — President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) participated in the 79th anniversary celebration of the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) at Monas, Jakarta, on Saturday (October 5), accompanied by several officials, including Defense Minister and President-elect Prabowo Subianto.
Jokowi stressed that the significant number of citizens present at the event reflected the strong bond between the TNI and the public. He highlighted that this unity between the military and the people is a key strength of Indonesia.
“This 79th anniversary of the TNI demonstrates the close relationship between the TNI and the people, which is a major strength of our country—the unity of the TNI and the people,” Jokowi said after leading the TNI anniversary ceremony.
While acknowledging the challenges that still need to be overcome, Jokowi acknowledged the continuous improvements within the TNI.
“There is still much to evaluate and enhance, but I see very positive progress,” he remarked.
The public event attracted residents from across Jabodetabek, who gathered at Monas early in the morning. The crowd was impressed by the grand parade featuring 100,000 personnel and over 1,000 defense vehicles (alutsista).
The excitement among the crowd was evident, especially when they saw President-elect Prabowo Subianto, who was also present. Many rushed to greet him, eager to shake hands and capture the moment with the incoming president after he had finished attending the TNI’s annual celebration.
