Prabowo Aims to Provide Free Meals for 82.9 Million Children by Year-End

President Prabowo Subianto has set an ambitious target to expand the Free Nutritious Meal Program (Makan Bergizi Gratis / MBG) to reach 82.9 million children nationwide by the end of 2025. During the 27th anniversary of the National Awakening Party (PKB), he emphasized the program’s importance as a national priority with a sense of urgency. Sharing a heartfelt experience from his trip to Central Java, where he witnessed the overwhelming demand for nutritious meals among schoolchildren, teachers, and locals. Touched by the children’s plea for meals even before attending school, Prabowo took immediate action to accelerate the program’s implementation, aiming to reach 20 million children by mid-August. He expressed his commitment to continue expanding the initiative and hopes to reach the target of 82.9 million beneficiaries by December 2025.

Prabowo highlighted that Indonesia’s efforts to combat child hunger and malnutrition through the Free Nutritious Meal Program have garnered international attention. He mentioned that other nations are closely monitoring Indonesia’s progress, with some planning to send teams to learn from their model. Despite the ambitious goal, Prabowo remains optimistic about achieving results and emphasized the need to deliver on promises. The program is part of his broader vision to address child hunger, malnutrition, and educational disparities by providing every child with the necessary nutrition to thrive and succeed. Through this initiative, Prabowo aims to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has access to nutritious meals for their physical and cognitive development.
