BGN Recruits Low-Income Communities for MBG Nutrition Program

National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is implementing a recruitment drive for the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) by prioritizing individuals in extreme and general poverty (deciles 1 and 2) to boost local employment opportunities. Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the National Nutrition Agency, revealed that at least 30% of the 47 personnel in each SPPG unit will be selected from underprivileged households. This initiative is in line with the President’s directive to ensure that the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program contributes to job creation and economic empowerment for families in the lowest economic deciles.

With a total of 2,378 established SPPG units in collaboration with 6,076 local economic institutions, including cooperatives, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes/BUMDesma), and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the program has engaged 93,572 local community volunteers. The MBG Program has benefitted 7,444,238 individuals nationwide, categorized into groups such as Early Childhood Education, Elementary School, Junior High School, Senior High/Vocational School, Islamic boarding school students, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, and People’s School students.

To expand the program’s reach, BGN plans to launch an additional 2,401 SPPG units within the next 10 days, bringing the total operational units to 4,788. This strategic move is expected to serve around 15 million beneficiaries nationwide, reflecting the agency’s commitment to addressing nutritional needs while creating employment opportunities for vulnerable communities.
