President Prabowo Subianto’s key programs, including Free Nutritious Meals (MBG), People’s School (Sekolah Rakyat), and Merah Putih Village/Urban Cooperatives (Kopdes), are being hailed as pathways to expedite poverty eradication. These initiatives hold the promise of creating numerous job opportunities while enhancing economic self-sufficiency. The aim is not merely to alleviate poverty through social assistance, but to empower individuals to become economically independent, as emphasized by Head of the Poverty Eradication Acceleration Agency (BP Taskin) Budiman Sudjatmiko during a recent press conference.
Drawing a comparison to football, Budiman described the government’s strategy as shaping the poor into skilled and nourished individuals with broad economic access, akin to players on a field. The government’s role is likened to ensuring a smooth transition from defense to attack until the ultimate goal of poverty eradication is achieved. Programs like Sekolah Rakyat, which provides boarding-based education, seek to break the cycle of poverty, while MBG and Kopdes Merah Putih offer economic advantages to entire communities.
Deputy Head of BP Taskin, Nanik S. Deyang, emphasized the tangible hope these programs bring to impoverished households. By removing children from limiting environments and generating economic opportunities for local producers, MBG and Kopdes play a vital role in fostering independence and uplifting communities. Through initiatives like Kopdes Merah Putih, costly intermediaries in supply chains are eliminated, allowing for fair pricing of essential goods like LPG cylinders and increased accessibility to fertilizers for farmers without the need for multiple layers of middlemen.
Furthermore, Kopdes provides affordable credit options, freeing individuals from exploitative lenders and offering capital on favorable terms compared to traditional banks. These initiatives are not just welfare programs but comprehensive strategies to empower individuals, create employment, and stimulate economic growth at various levels.
