BGN Temporarily Suspends Nutrition Services in East Nusa Tenggara

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has decided to temporarily halt the operations of its Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) due to the discovery of substandard food in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program. Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the BGN, stated in Jakarta that the affected SPPG units would remain closed until investigations are completed and food samples from the MBG program are fully examined in laboratories. BGN is collaborating with independent institutions, local health departments, and educational authorities to investigate the cause of the issue while also monitoring the health of impacted students closely. The agency has apologized to students, parents, schools, and all affected parties, emphasizing its zero-tolerance policy for negligence in the procurement and distribution of MBG meals. Redy highlighted the importance of ensuring the health and safety of all MBG beneficiaries and mentioned that corrective measures are currently underway to prevent such incidents in the future. These measures include stricter partner screening, enhanced hygiene standards, improved supply chain monitoring, and the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) based on expert recommendations. BGN is working with local government authorities to ensure a swift and effective response on the ground and is committed to meeting all food safety standards to deliver the intended benefits of the MBG Program without compromising the health of recipients.
