Emotional Reactions: Ticket Wars to Tears at Merdeka Palace Ceremony

The flag-lowering ceremony held at the Merdeka Palace to commemorate Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day created a solemn atmosphere on Sunday (Aug. 17). Jakarta resident Titi Nurdianti, originally from Cilacap, Central Java, was deeply moved and proud to be present at the historic event. Titi shared how obtaining an official ticket was a challenging experience, as she had to compete online with other Indonesians in a race to secure a spot. Finally getting a ticket for the flag-lowering ceremony filled her with overwhelming joy and emotions.

Having only seen the ritual on television before, Titi was thrilled to witness it in person for the first time on August 17, 2025. She chose to wear traditional attire from West Nusa Tenggara in a striking red color to mark the occasion. Titi expressed her excitement about wearing the outfit from NTB (West Nusa Tenggara) as it gave her the opportunity to learn more about the region.

One of Titi’s most cherished memories from the day was the procession that followed the flag-lowering ceremony, leading to the National Monument. The festive parade added to the grandeur of this year’s Independence Day celebration. Amidst tears and joy, Titi offered prayers and hopes for Indonesia’s future, expressing optimism for the nation’s progress and the well-being of its people. She also sent a heartfelt message to President Prabowo, praying for his health as he continues to lead the country with sovereignty, bringing prosperity and strength to Indonesia.
