Jakarta – The Indonesian Paralympians are gearing up for the 2024 Paris Paralympics, which are scheduled to begin on August 28, 2024. As the athletes prepare for the competition, one crucial aspect being finalized is the design of their costumes. While Didit Hediprasetyo designed the costumes for the 2024 Paris Olympics, this time the responsibility has been taken over by Didiet Maulana and his brand, IKAT Indonesia by Didiet Maulana.
The costumes are inspired by the concept of “Bhinneka Tunggal Ika” (Unity in Diversity), which is a foundational value in Indonesia. Collaborating with Mills, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), and the National Paralympic Committee of Indonesia (NPC), Didiet Maulana has created a collection that includes jackets, jerseys, and track pants. The designs not only focus on aesthetics but also aim to embody the values of unity and diversity that are integral to the Indonesian nation.
The “Sandya Niskala” design series incorporates elements of traditional ikat weaving, reflecting the diverse culture of Indonesia. The design also features geometric patterns inspired by the ocean waves, symbolizing Indonesia’s identity as an archipelagic nation. Motifs inspired by the Garuda Pancasila, the national emblem of Indonesia, are also incorporated into the design, representing strength, unity, and solidarity.
The color scheme of the costumes was carefully chosen, with each color carrying deep symbolism. Red symbolizes courage, white symbolizes purity, gold symbolizes grandeur and glory, and touches of gray symbolize responsibility. Didiet hopes that these colors will bring an energetic vibe and inspire the Indonesian athletes competing in the Paralympics.
To celebrate the launch of the collection, Didiet Maulana organized an exclusive photo session with Indonesian Paralympians who will be participating in the 2024 Paris Paralympics. The photo session, themed “Embrace and Celebrating Our Athlete,” aimed to highlight the spirit and dedication of the athletes representing Indonesia.
Through their costume designs, both Didiet Maulana and Didit Hediprasetyo aim to showcase national pride and unity on the international stage. The costumes not only serve a functional purpose but also carry meaningful messages of pride and unity for Indonesia.
